A Choir is Born
In 1934 a group of men at Park Lane Methodist Church decided to form a small choir which was originally created just to sing at a Men's Weekend Service. However, luckily for them, a visitor from Alderly Edge attended the concert and was so impressed he invited them back to sing at his church. They accepted the invite and a choir was born. The choir was originally known as "Hockley Male Voice Choir" because the church which they had sung in was known as "Hockley Chapel" at the time. George Braddock was the first conductor and later replaced by Ben Smith. In 1952 Stanley Hadfield took over as conductor and kept the post for twenty eight years.
The Choir Continues To Thrive
That took the choir until 1980. Then for a short time Tom Steer took over but left four years later. David Mosley was made conductor and his first concert was on the choir's Golden Jubilee in 1984. During its years of existence the choir has managed to generate thousands of pounds for various charities and hopes to generate many more in the future. Hopefully you will attend a concert and see the choir for yourselves
